Brows: FAQ

WHAT IS SEMI-PERMANENT BROWS?

Semi Permanent brows is a form of cosmetic tattoo procedure that allows us to implant pigment into the upper dermis of your skin. We offer 3 different techniques.

1. Microblading

Handheld tool will be used to create hair-like strokes in the skin. Best suited for someone with dry/normal skin with a good amount of brow hairs.

2. Powder Brows

A tattoo machine is used to implant pigment into the skin. Colours are deposited in layers until the desired level of intensity is achieved. This technique is suited for all skin types. Once healed, the result will look like softly filled in brows.

3. Combination brows

Combining both microblading and powder brows to create a subtle and natural eyebrows. Microblading strokes are placed throughout the entire eyebrow area, and shading will be added to create more depth and dimension. It is suited for most skin types. However if you are oily, powder brows will be the best option.

Based on your style preference and skin type, we will be able to advise you on  the appropriate technique during your consultation.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Colour retention depends a lot on your skin type and lifestyle. It typically lasts 1-3 years. The brows will fade over time and an annual refresher is highly recommended. Individuals with oily skin types may require additional touch up sessions.

HOW LONG IS THE APPOINTMENT?

The initial appointment will be approximately 3 hours.

We start with a consultation about your desired shape and colour, followed by the brow design. Once the brow design is approved, we will begin the tattoo procedure.

The touch up appointment will be approximately 2 hours.

DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?

Everyone's pain tolerance is different. Most clients experience no pain and some will feel a slight discomfort. A topical numbing gel will be used throughout the procedure to ensure that the pain is minimal.

Avoiding caffeine and alcohol 24-48 hours prior to your procedure will make you less sensitive. Please note, if you schedule your appointment during your menstrual cycle, you may experience increased sensitivity.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

For optimal healed results, it is important to follow the instructions below.

1. No alcohol or caffeine 48 hours prior to your appointment. Alcohol consumption will increase your level of sensitivity to pain regardless of the numbing application. It will also increase your likelihood of swelling post procedure.

2. Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Advil/Ibuprofen 24 hours prior to your appointment.

3. Avoid bootie and fillers around your eye area for at least 2 weeks.

4. Refrain from using any AHA products around the eye area for 2 weeks before

5. Avoid sun and suntanning one week prior to your appointment.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

Please be advised that the healing process may take longer if you do not take proper precautionary measures.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER: ABSORB

After the procedure, gently blot the brow area with a clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until the oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid is important as it will prevent hardening of the lymphatic fluid

DAY 1-7 WASH

Wash eyebrows daily (morning and evening) to remove build up of oil, bacteria and dead skin. Use a gentle, antibacterial soap like Cetaphil or Dial Soap, wash eyebrow area lightly for 10 seconds and rinse thoroughly with cool water. Pat dry with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliants.

DAY 1 - 7 MOISTURIZE

Apply a rice grain amount of the given ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply as this will suffocate the skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on wet or damp skin.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour

  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for 1 week

  • No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks

  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when

    outdoors

  • Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days. Limit your showers to 5

minutes so you do not create too much steam.

  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days

  • Avoid topical makeup, including sunscreen on the treatment area

  • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area

  • No anti-aging or acne products on the brow area. This causes fading and discolouration very

    quickly
