Eyeliner: FAQ

WHAT TYPE OF EYELINER IS SUITABLE FOR ME?

We currently offer two types of eyeliner tattoo, lash line enhancement and solid design eyeliner.

Lash line enhancement is the most natural look. We place the line along the eyelashes so it gives the eyes definition without looking like makeup.

Solid design eyeliner is slightly bolder, with a winged tail. The thickness and length of the eyeliner is customized to suit your eyes and makeup style. The wing angle is also customized to each client.

If you're unsure what you like, we will help you discover which one is the best style for you during your consultation. This will be determined by your eye shape, makeup habits, and your personal preference.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

After your first touch up, your eyeliner tattoo will typically last 1-5 years. The fading process is extremely gradual for eyeliner tattoo and normally we recommend a touch up every 2-3 years.

The colour retention varies according to individual skin type (thicker skin fades faster), life style (sun exposure) and age.

HOW LONG IS THE APPOINTMENT?

The initial appointment will be approximately 3 hours.

We start with a consultation about your desired style, followed by numbing the eye area, then we will pre draw the eyeliner design. Once the eyeliner design is approved and we are 100% satisfied with the eyeliner design, we will begin the tattoo procedure.

The touch up appointment will be approximately 2 hours.

DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?

Pain level for eyeliner procedure is normally between 0-4 out of 10, with 10 being the most painful. Pain level can vary depending on your tolerance to pain and level of sensitivity.

Topical numbing cream will be used before we start the procedure and throughout the procedure to minimize your discomfort.

Pain level may increase for clients who are or have:

  • Insomnia or inadequate sleep in the past few days

  • Alcohol consumption in the past 48 hours

  • Had caffeine before the procedure

  • On their menstrual cycle

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

Please read carefully before booking your appointment. Not adhering to these instructions can impact your healed results.

  • Eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure

  • No excessive alcohol or caffeine consumption 24 hours before your procedure. Alcohol and caffeine can thin the blood, which causes the skin to be hypersensitive, and bleed/bruise more easily

  • Avoid sun tanning one week prior to the procedure

  • Avoid blood thinning medication 24 hours before the procedure. This includes Aspirin, Niacin (Vitamin B3), Vitamin E or Advil/Ibuprofen, fish oils tablets. Please consult your physician if this is an issue

  • Eyelash extensions should be removed 3 days prior to the procedure

  • No eyelash perm and/or tinting at least 3 days prior

  • Discontinue Retin-A one week prior to the procedure

  • No Botox around the eye area 2 weeks prior

  • Eyelash growth serum like Latisse bring extra circulation to the lash line area which results in more growth or hair/lashes. This can cause the skin to be hypersensitive and bleed easily. It is recommended to discontinue the use of these products at least 3-6 months before your treatment

  • Do not wear any eye makeup on the day of your appointment

  • If you wear contact lenses, please wear glasses on the day of your appointment

  • Please note: you will be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

  • Wash the skin around the eyes twice a day with a gentle, unscented soap. Use your fingertips and cleanse gently and pat dry with a clean tissue

  • Apply ointment (provided) 2-3 times a day for up to 7 days for design eyeliner (no ointment needed for lash line enhancement)

  • Swelling and redness is normal for the first few days

  • The colour will fade approximately 30-50% when the scabs fall off. This is completely normal.

  • To achieve the perfect liner, we need to see how your skin accepts the initial application and a touch up appointment is where we will perfect the shape and colour

  • No eye makeup is allowed until the scabs completely fall off

  • Avoid sweaty exercises, hot saunas, hot yoga and swimming

Swelling

Swelling occurs up to 3 days after the procedure, especially in the morning. Exercising the eyes can help reduce swelling and puffiness. Try blinking actively for 2 minutes in the morning. To relieve swelling, you can ice the area with soft gel ice packs

Scabbing

The eyeliner will start to form scabs and as the skin heals, the scabs will fall off in small pieces. Scabs will take about 7-10 days to peel off, do not pick at the scabs or peel the off prematurely.
